What Kuma is
Kuma is a personal expense-logging app for iPhone, shaped like a small, clumsy, warm bear. You text Kuma what you spent in plain language, and Kuma records it as an entry with an amount and a category, then shows you your ledger and your monthly charts.
Get in touch
Questions, problems, bug reports, privacy requests, or just to say hello:
Kuma is run by one person, so replies usually arrive within a couple of days. If you are reporting something broken, it helps to include what you typed, what Kuma did, and your iPhone model.
You can also use Send feedback on the You screen inside the app, which attaches your app version automatically. It does not attach your entries, your chat, or your account details.
How do I log an expense?
Type it into the chat box the way you would text a friend, then send.
lunch at blue bottle for $4
32 on gas
Kuma replies with the amount it recorded and the category it filed the entry under. If that reply says the right number and the right category, the entry is saved.
Kuma got the amount, merchant, or category wrong
Two ways to fix it. You can say so in the chat, for example that was actually 12, and Kuma will show you the change to confirm before anything is written.
Or open the ledger, tap the entry, and change it in the sheet that appears. Choosing a category there does not save on its own. Nothing is written until you tap Save, so you can look through the options freely.
I received money rather than spent it
Kuma records money in as well as money out. Income and refunds live in the same ledger, filed under Income or Refund, and the Ledger screen can filter to All, Spent, or Received.
If Kuma files something on the wrong side, tap the entry and use Not an expense in the edit sheet, or say so in the chat, for example that one was income.
How do I delete an entry?
Open the ledger, tap the entry, and use Delete in the sheet. You will be asked to confirm first. You can also ask Kuma in the chat, and Kuma will show you which entry it means before removing anything.
A deleted entry is removed from your ledger and from every total. Our Privacy Policy describes what happens to the underlying record.
How do I see my totals?
Open the drawer at the top left. Ledger lists every entry. Charts has your month as a ring by category, a ranked list, a calendar, and six months of cash flow.
You can also just ask, for example how much did I spend on coffee this month. Kuma reads the answer off your ledger rather than estimating it.
Do I need to connect my bank?
No. Kuma has no bank or card connection, and there is nothing to link. Every entry is one you typed.
What happens to what I type?
To understand a sentence like “lunch at blue bottle for $4”, Kuma sends your message, and limited recent conversation context, to DeepSeek, a third-party AI provider. Your amounts, categories, and every total are worked out by Kuma’s own server from your own entries.
The Privacy Policy explains this in full, including what is sent, what is not, and where it is processed.
Kuma said something odd, or gave me a strange number
Kuma uses an AI model to read what you type, and it can be wrong. The amount and category in Kuma’s reply are there so you can check them at a glance, and anything wrong can be corrected as described above. Kuma keeps a record of your spending, and does not give financial, tax, or investment advice.
If Kuma repeatedly misreads something, please email us with the exact wording. That is genuinely useful.
Kuma says I have reached a limit
Kuma has a monthly entry allowance, and the card that appears will tell you where you are. If you have hit the point where new entries are paused, that same card has a button to ask for more room, and requests are usually handled within a day.
Reaching a limit never affects the books you already have. Your ledger, charts, edits, corrections, deletions, and account deletion all keep working.
I cannot sign in
Kuma signs you in with Apple, and never asks for a password. If sign-in fails, check that you are connected, then try again. The button will not respond until the checkbox above it is ticked, which is how you confirm your age and accept the Terms.
If it still fails, email us with the message you saw on screen.
How do I delete my account?
Open the drawer, go to You, and choose Delete account at the bottom. You will be asked to confirm. This deletes your account together with your entries, your conversation, and your corrections, removes your Kuma sign-in authorization, and signs you out. It cannot be undone.
One thing it cannot do is take back message text already sent to Kuma’s AI provider. The Privacy Policy says more about this.
Where Kuma works
Kuma is available in the United States, on iPhone, in English, in US dollars. It is free to use.
